IT Skills - GP Update
A group policy is a group of Settings created by IT and sent out to computers in the trust. These manage settings on your device and ensure PCs are uniform in the trust.
'GPUpdate' is short for Group Policy update. It is a tool used to update the group policy and pull down any new or changed settings.
Sometimes if something is not working on your PC performing a GP Update can solve this issue. This is often used to solve issues with printers not appearing as an option
This guide will take you through the process of performing a GPUpdate
NOTE: a GPUpdate will log you out at the last step. Close and Save anything you need before the below process
1. In the bottom right of your screen in the search bar type "CMD"
2. Select Command prompt
3. Type "gpupdate /force" and press enter.
Note: This may take a few minutes
4. The policy will update and will ask if you would like to log off to complete the process. Type the letter Y and press enter, this will log you out.
5. Sign back into your pc and check if your issue is resolved
Note: If your issue is not resolved by this please contact the IT Service Desk on ext 65777 and let them know you have already performed a GPUpdate and it has not been successful
